Kidney
Transplant

Management of kidney transplant patients and related diagnosis by physicians with more than 20 years of experience.

Evaluation & Treatment
of Hypertension

Diagnosis and treatment of complicated and secondary causes of hypertension.

Dialysis

Several modalities are offered including peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration and hemodiafiltration, and slow low efficiency hemodialysis for critically ill patients.

Chronic Kidney Disease
Stage 1 to 5

Diagnosis of etiology of kidney disease including diabetic nephropathy, glomerulonephritis, hypertensive nephrosclerosis, and obstructive nephropathy. Nephrologists also specialize in the management of proteinuria, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, volume overload control, anemia of renal disease, mineral bone metabolism disorders related to kidney disease, and hypertension.

Management

Diagnosis and prevention of recurrent kidney stones.

Treatment of Acute
Kidney Disease

Diagnosis and treatment of acute and subacute kidney failure in outpatients and inpatients.

Prior to joining EPKS, Dr. Komaragiri served as an Assistant Professor and Assistant Program Director of Nephrology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center where he was closely involved in training of Nephrology Fellows. He was the recipient of the prestigious “William R. Hardy Teaching Physician” of the Years 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. Currently he also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Science Center, El Paso. Dr. Komaragiri enjoys practicing all aspects of nephrology.

Fernando Raudales

Fernando Raudales

Born in Honduras, Central America, where he graduated from School of Medicine Suma Cum Laude. He trained in Internal Medicine in Chicago at Mt Sinai Hospital and Nephrology in Houston at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and certified in Hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension. Also, certified as an Interventionalist in vascular access by ADSIN. He has been in practice in El Paso since 1988 practicing all aspects of clinical Nephrology with special interest in transplantation and hypertension. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Hypertension, and American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Raudales as well as the other partners have offices in the West as well as East side of town and attend all local hospitals.

German Hernandez

German Hernandez

MD, FASN, FACP

Dr. German Hernandez is an Associate Nephrologist with El Paso Kidney Specialists, P.A. and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC). Dr. Hernandez obtained his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco where he served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Hernandez also completed his nephrology fellowship training at UCSF and underwent Advanced Training in Clinical Research in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Hernandez then joined the nephrology Faculty at UCSF as a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Scholar in health disparities.

Dr. Hernandez has been in clinical practice in El Paso, Texas for the past eleven years. He has received various honors and awards including National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems President's Award, the TTUHSC President's Young Investigator Award, and the TTUHSC Dean's Young Investigator Award. Dr. Hernandez serves at the site principal investigator for several multi-center studies, sponsored by both industry and the National Institutes of Health, with the goal of increasing the representation of Hispanic patients in clinical trials.

He received the Clinical Science Research Award, from the NIH/NIDDK's Network of Minority Research Investigators in 2009. Dr. Hernandez is a member of several professional organizations and has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and the American College of Physicians. He is a Member of the Board of Trustees for the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB) and is on the editorial board of ISHIB's journal Ethnicity & Disease. He also serves as the Secretary and Treasurer for the End Stage Renal Disease Network of Texas (ESRD Network 14).

Dr. Hernandez' clinical expertise includes management of hypertension, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, lupus kidney disease, vasculitis, dialysis, apheresis, and the medical management of transplant patients.

Simon Rodriguez

Simon Rodriguez

MD

Is a native of Ciudad Juárez, México. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Chemistry from the University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Rodriguez attended medical school at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez in México and underwent his Internal Medicine training at Texas Tech University Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He received his fellowship training in Nephrology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Emory University is considered one of the top 20 schools in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report 2011 Rankings. Dr. Rodriguez underwent additional training in Interventional Nephrology and Renal Ultrasonography. He joined El Paso Kidney Specialists in August 2010. His interests include hemodialysis vascular access, diabetic nephropathy and kidney transplantation. He is an active promoter of maintaining vascular access in the dialysis population.

Jorge Humberto Serna

Jorge Humberto Serna

MD, FACP, FAAP, FASN, FASH

Earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology from Baylor University at Waco, Texas. Subsequently, he earned his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He proceeded to complete his combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston followed by his Fellowship in Nephrology . He became fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Society of Nephrology, and American Society of Hypertension. He is a certified hypertension specialist by the American Society of Hypertension and helps to treat patients with secondary hypertension. He was awarded Texas Super Doctor by his colleagues in the Texas Monthly Magazine in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. He enjoys all aspects of clinical nephrology with emphasis on chronic kidney disease and its complications, diabetic nephropathy, proteinuria, glomerulonephritis, nephrolithiasis and refractory hypertension.

Ileana Martinez

Dr. Ileana Martinez was born in El Paso, TX and grew up in Juárez where she obtained her medical doctor degree at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez. She did her internal medicine training at Texas Tech Health Science Center in El Paso, TX. She moved to San Antonio, TX to do her nephrology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center. She worked in private practice in San Antonio for 2 and a half years before mocing back to our bordertown. After more than 10 years in private practice, she has recertified in both internal medicine and nephrology. She is lso certified as a hypertension specialist. She is interested in optimizing the care of patients with chronic kidney disease and treating challenging cases of acute renal failure, glomerulonephritis, and difficult to control hypertension.
